What does estate liquidation cost?
A direct purchase costs nothing: we pay you, on the spot, for the pieces we agree on. For a full estate sale we work on the industry-standard commission model, agreed clearly in writing before anything starts. The evaluation visit is free either way.
How fast can you work?
A direct purchase can happen within days of the first call, and we haul everything we purchase, with a full cleanout of the remainder available as the finishing step, purchases credited against its cost. Full estate sales need two to four weeks of lead time to do properly.
Do you take everything, or only the valuable items?
We buy what has market value, we are honest about the rest, and when the family wants the house left empty we run the full cleanout ourselves: the read and the purchase first, donation runs with receipts next, hauling last, with everything we bought credited against the cleanout's cost. One call, one set of decisions.
How do I tell if a piece of jewelry in the dresser is signed?
Use a loupe or your phone camera zoomed all the way in and check three places: the back of a clasp, the inside of a ring shank, and the reverse of a brooch near the pin stem. Maker’s marks are tiny and often buried under tarnish, so look before you clean rather than after. Do not polish anything, because polishing is the fastest way to erase a mark and the aged surface that dates the piece. We identify jewelry free, including precious metal and stones, tell you plainly what you have, and point you to a reputable buyer if you decide to sell the fine pieces.
Should we pull the slipcovers off the furniture and clean it up before you visit?
Take the covers off so we can see it, but do nothing else. Slipcovers are the reason original upholstery survives, and original fabric on a mid-century frame is worth more than a fresh reupholstery job that costs you money and removes the evidence. While the covers are off, look under the seat, on the back of the frame, and inside a drawer for a paper label or a stamped date. That mark is usually what separates a good piece from ordinary old furniture.
The silverware in the drawer says 1847 Rogers Bros. Is it really from 1847?
No, and this mark fools families every week. The 1847 is the year the Rogers brothers founded the firm, not the year your set was made, and every 1847 Rogers Bros piece is silverplate rather than sterling, however substantial it feels. An IS alongside stands for International Silver, the plate parent company. Plated sets carry table value and memories but essentially no metal value, and we say that plainly. The marks get a free read during any estate visit, alongside everything else in the house.
