Common questions
I bought boxes years ago as an investment and never opened them. What now?
Keep them sealed. Unopened vintage boxes are worth far more than the sum of their likely pulls, and opening one to check is an expensive mistake. We verify sealed product by weight, wrap, and printing details without breaking anything, and we pay accordingly.
We are a military family about to move. Can you work on our timeline?
Yes. PCS season is real in this county and we work around it. One call sets a visit before the packers arrive, we evaluate everything in one sitting, and you carry cash instead of boxes to the next duty station.
Do you buy collections that include sports cards or comics?
We buy the trading card games on their merits, Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh, and we are honest about sports cards and comics: some have real markets, most are modest. We will tell you which is which rather than blending it all into one vague number.
Our collection has been in storage through two duty stations. What should we check before assuming it came through fine?
Look for the damage storage does, which is different from the damage handling does. Cards cup or wave slightly as humidity cycles and edges go white, and sealed product suffers first at the wrap, where shrink that has gone loose, shifted, or crushed is a serious hit on a box that otherwise looks perfect. Do not press warped cards flat under weight, do not re-wrap or reseal anything, and do not pull cards out of old sleeves to inspect them, because that is exactly when corners get dinged. Photograph the boxes closed and the binders as they sit.
I have promo cards from Comic-Con and other events mixed into my binders. Should those be pulled out separately?
Yes, and it is worth doing carefully. Promos generally carry a black star with the word PROMO where a set symbol would sit, and they do not fit the numbering of any set, which is the quickest way to spot them in a binder. Print runs for convention and event cards vary enormously, so two that look alike can be far apart in price, and each one gets read individually rather than as part of a set. If any are still in a sealed poly sleeve or original packaging, leave them sealed, because opening one to look at the card costs real money.
Is a complete set worth more than selling the cards individually?
A complete set generally brings a premium over the same cards scattered, which is one reason we ask you not to break up binders before we look. The holos carry the set, so their condition decides most of the premium. If the set is missing a few cards, we price what is actually there, the strong cards individually and the rest honestly, and we tell you plainly which situation you are in.
