Sell Vintage Clothing in Orange County. We Buy in Bulk and Pay Cash

Read the transcript

Hey guys, Sam here from California Vintage Buyers. Not only do we deal with all kinds of estates and auctions and property clearouts, but we also own Orange County's biggest vintage clothing store, called Old 44 Vintage, down in San Juan Capistrano. Therefore, we are a bulk buyer of all kinds of vintage clothing, 1990s and previous. We want to see it all. How do you know if something's vintage or not? Glad you asked. Here's a tell to know it's not vintage: printed tag. If you see that it looks like a stamp went on there and just made the tag, not vintage. Physical tag, it has a higher probability of being a vintage garment, especially if it says Made in USA. That's the main tell. But we buy leathers, military kind of stuff, western wear, sports, and most of all, graphic t-shirts. It could be a pink Harley-Davidson to a 1979 Pink Floyd concert tee. We love it. We want to see it all. Give us a call, 949-449-1255, or text photos to 949-449-1255.

Common questions

How do I know if my old clothing is valuable?

Age, brand, and condition matter, but so do details most people never notice: selvedge lines, single-stitch hems, union labels, hidden rivets. That is exactly what we check. Don’t wash, repair, or alter anything before we see it; collectors prize original condition.

Do you buy single items, or only whole collections?

Both. We recently paid $12,000 for a single 1940s Levi’s Type 1 jacket. We are equally happy to go through an entire closet or garage.

What if I’m not sure it’s vintage?

Call us and describe it, or text a photo. We can usually tell you within minutes whether it is worth a visit, and the honest answer sometimes saves you a trip to the post office.

What old clothes are actually worth money?

Workwear and denim before anything else: Levi’s, Lee, Wrangler, Carhartt, and Filson, plus band and movie t-shirts with single-stitch hems, western wear, military clothing, and 1980s and 90s sportswear. What almost never carries value is ordinary high-street clothing however well kept, and formal wear of any age. The rule that surprises people is that the worn work clothes in the garage usually beat the good clothes in the wardrobe.

Should I wash old clothes before selling them?

No, and this is the most expensive habit we run into. Washing flattens the fades collectors pay for on denim, can shrink and set stains on old cotton, and removes the honest wear that dates a garment. Repairs, paint marks, and missing buttons are frequently priced in rather than deducted. Bag it as found and let someone read it first.

There is a bag of old t-shirts headed for donation. Is it worth a look first?

Ten minutes, before it goes. Most old shirts are ordinary and we say so, but concert, surf, and movie tees from the 1970s through the early 1990s are collected seriously, and the valuable ones look exactly like the worn-out ones. Turn a few hems: one row of stitching marks the premium decades. We have found four-figure shirts in piles headed for the rag bin, so photograph the graphics and tags and text them to (949) 449-1255 first.

One call. We’ll take itfrom there.
