Do you buy modern era military items or only the World Wars?
Every era. Korea, Vietnam, and even later material has collectors and historians behind it, and Pendleton’s history runs through all of it.
What are bring-backs, and are they legal to sell?
Items service members brought home: flags, swords, trench art, and the like. Most are lawful to sell, and the exceptions are exactly the things we know how to recognize and handle properly.
Is Oceanside really in your range from Orange County?
Comfortably: it is the first stop into San Diego County, forty minutes from our warehouse, and it pairs with Carlsbad and Vista calls weekly.
We found my father’s sea bag still packed in the garage. What should we not do before you look at it?
Do not launder or dry clean the wool, and do not remove name tapes, ribbons, EGA insignia or unit patches to see them better. How a uniform was mounted and marked is part of the record, and unpinning it destroys that in a minute. If there are papers stuffed in the bag, leave them in the bag, because discharge and transfer documents date every other item in it. If you see live moths, a sealed bag in a freezer for a few days is far safer than any cleaner or spray.
There are boxes of old photographs of the pier and the beach. Does anyone want family snapshots?
Photographs showing the pier, the storefronts, boards or a contest have a market well beyond your family, and they are exactly the images local history keeps losing. Do not write on the backs in ballpoint, do not trim them to fit an album, and do not move them into the sticky magnetic-page albums, which lift the emulsion whenever anyone tries to take them out later. Keep negatives and slides together with the prints. If a name, a year or a shop is already written on the back, that writing is part of the value.
