Please do not. Sorting is our job, and honestly, families often throw away the wrong things when they pre-clean. A garage that has not been touched in twenty years is the best version of a garage for us. We bring gloves and patience.

There are crates of records in the garage. How do I tell if any are worth real money?
Look at the label and the jacket before the vinyl. Original pressings carry the label design and company address of their year, a matrix number scratched into the run-out groove beside the label, and a jacket with no cut corner or drilled hole, since those usually mark a promo or a cut-out copy. Keep inner sleeves and inserts with their records, and do not clean anything with household cleaner or alcohol, which hazes vinyl and dissolves label printing.
The old den furniture is out under a tarp. Is anything from that era still wanted?
Often, yes. What got moved to the garage when the den was redone is frequently the exact era the market came back around to. Look underneath and behind for a paper label, a branded stamp, or a maker’s tag and photograph it, since that is what separates a designed piece from a lookalike. Do not refinish or reupholster first; an original finish and original fabric usually price higher than a fresh one.
