The Small Tract Act scattered five-acre parcels and jackrabbit homesteads across Yucca Valley, Landers, and Joshua Tree in the fifties, and plenty of those cabins stayed in one family. When one finally changes hands, the contents are often untouched: work jackets on nails, boots under the bed, a box of silver jewelry from trading post trips. We also hear from Pioneertown, where the western film sets left a real taste for cowboy gear, and from Twentynine Palms, where Marine households hold uniforms and souvenirs from every posting since the base opened. It is a two-hour drive from our Laguna Hills warehouse, and for a good collection we make it gladly.
